On St. Patrick’s Day of 2010 I had a Boog City reading at San Francisco’s Books and Bookshelves as part of our d.a. levy lives: celebrating renegade presses series. Instead of featuring readings from a single small press’ authors, I hosted some editors from a host of Northern Californian small presses—Albert Flynn DeSilver (The Owl Press), Travis Ortiz (Atelos Publishing Project), Jill Stengel (a+bend press), and Eileen R. Tabios (Meritage Press).
As with all of my featured readings for the past two-plus decades, I made a chapbook of all of the poems I would read that night in the order that I read them. Bring it On features appearances from Brenda Iijima; Keanu Reeves; Kim Richards; James Spader; Robert Downey, Jr.; Jim Carroll; Phyllis George; Dick Clark; Richard Nixon; Rick James; Don Larsen; Santa Claus; Sir Edmund Hillary; Tenzing Norgay; Marlon Brando; Kurt Cobain; Thomas Jefferson; F. Scott Fitzgerald; George Washington; Captain Matthew Webb; Secretariat; Kirsten Dunst; Jack Ruby; Lee Harvey Oswald; The Clash; Luke Skywalker, Enrique Iglesias; Han Solo; Chewbacca; Frank Sinatra; Obi-Wan Kenobi; The Rolling Stones; and David Bowie; plus poems written to epigraphs from Sean Cole.
It was published in an edition of 26, all of which were signed and lettered by yours truly, and available digitally here for the first time.
