In November 2000 Boog put out the first Portable Boog Reader, an instant anthology of NYC poetry. But the press had always featured work from outside of the five boroughs, and focused scene reports on cities across the U.S., so I felt like something was missing.
I decided to make a digest-size litzine featuring one non-NYC region, and settled on one of my favorite poetry communities, Philadelphia. I asked two poets I’d become friendly with in Philly, Chris and Jenn McCreary if they would edit it, and we organized an event with some of the readers and area musicians, and 3/4 of Bionic Finger, whose van I came to the event in from NYC. So as my good luck wish for Philly area fans for their hometown team to win the World Series beginning tonight (and my hatred for those cheating Astros still leftover from 2017), for the first time since its initial 100 copy run, welcome to The Portable Boog Reader 1A: Philadelphia, featuring works from:
