I organized my first Boog event in the Bay Area in San Francisco around a visit to see my family in February 2002, asking friends from the area to read and, eventually at future Boog City Goes West events, play music, too.
A year later, for another trip to see family I put together an event in Oakland. One of the folks in both lineups was my dear friend, poet-publisher Jill Stengel. Jill had sent me her poem Ladies with Babies just to share with me, but I decided to make her a surprise chapbook. I reached out to our mutual friend, Brenda Iijima, one of the folks Jill dedicated the poem to, and she created the swell cover art you see here.
That September night at Mama Buzz Café, I pulled Jill aside before the reading, and gifted her with Ladies With Babies, Boog Literature chapbook number 28, published in an edition of 26, all of which she promptly lettered and signed.
